Well, the moment President Trump took the oath of office, Whitehouse.gov lost its Spanish-language portal. Head to www.whitehouse.gov/espanol, and all you’ll find is this:
The deletion of the Spanish-language portal is particularly important given Trump’s history of open hostility toward the Latin community. Did you happen to notice there are no Latinos in his personal cabinet? A 30-year first (Source: Fusion). It’s hard to stay neutral or give this new President a chance when his message of unity and fair representation is in complete contrast with his actions.
Last week during the inauguration, I wrote about the importance of uniting so that we can easily take action when our community needs us. If this doesn’t convince you that this president is not open to the America we helped create as immigrants, then I’m not sure what will.
Trump’s team has also removed the site’s former LGBT and Climate Change sections. They did add, however, a section titled “Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community”, which includes lines like, “Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter,” and features long-debunked statistics.
Register here. Together we can help unify and protect our community.
